Market Leaders Join Forces in Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy

Zurich, Enschede, Paris, 15th of November 2012

Micronit, Fluigent, and Zurich Instruments join forces creating the world's first commercial platform for micro electrical impedance spectroscopy

Micronit, Fluigent and Zurich Instruments announce today the world's first system solution for micro electrical impedance spectroscopy. The three companies are combining their state-of-the-art products and services in order to provide a novel combination to academic and industrial scientists intending to invest in the emerging biotechnology field of high-speed electrical sample characterization.
The new platform ensures the interoperability, connectivity and compatibility of advanced microfluidic flow control pumps (Fluigent) and best-in-class measurement electronics (Zurich Instruments), with the world's leading chip prototyping service (Micronit). This addresses the needs of customers wanting to profit from the example given by leading research laboratories who are already successfully using the platform components.
Thanks to the proven connectivity the new platform will be operative from day one after installation into any laboratory. Customers benefit immediately from world-class flow stability, fastest electrical detection, best signal-to-noise and fastest system response. At the same time the solution is cost competitive when it comes to detect large quantity of events. Micronit, Fluigent and Zurich Instruments will collaborate for marketing and sales activities and have recently presented the new platform to the public at the uTAS 2012 conference in Okinawa, Japan.

Micronit Microfluidics has been manufacturing glass-based lab-on-a-chip products for more than ten years. Micronit provides high quality lab-on-a-chip components for analytical instrumentation and is also a dedicated research and development partner for both science and industry.

Fluigent develops, manufactures and commercializes innovative microfluidic flow control and fluid handling solutions for laboratories, research units and industry around the world. Enabling full control of microfluidic systems (pressure, flow rate and voltage), Fluigent technologies provides innovating solutions for all microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip applications.

Zurich Instruments makes lock-in amplifiers, phase-locked loops, and impedance spectroscopes that have revolutionized instrumentation in the high-frequency (HF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) ranges by combining frequency-domain tools and time-domain tools within each product.

Cooperation between Micronit and Fluigent

Micronit Microfluidics and Fluigent have entered into a co-promotion agreement, enabling to promote each other’s products.
Fluigent has already integrated Micronit chips and chip holder in its demonstration package at customer sites and conferences. Micronit has set-up a Fluigent fluid handling system at its site, for chip characterization and for demonstration purposes. The Parties aim at leveraging on each other technical expertise and market experience, to offer products that can be easily integrated into any microfluidics experiments for R&D laboratories and industrial applications.

Micha Mulder, Managing Director of Micronit is excited about the products of Fluigent : “The Fluigent system works perfectly with our microfluidic chips. It’s really a plug and play system and is capable of very precise manipulation of liquids in microchannels because it makes use of pressurized reservoirs. We also got positive feedback from customers that use the Fluigent system with our chips and holder.”

François Leblanc, CEO of Fluigent is glad to join marketing and promotion activities with Micronit, ““We are excited to announce this collaboration with Micronit, a major independent player in microfluidic chip design and manufacturing. I am eager to move forward!”

Micronit Microfluidics has extensive experience in micromachining and microfluidics and is a key supplier of microfluidic devices to life sciences and chemistry markets. Micronit is providing high quality lab-on-a-chip components for analytical instrumentation and is also a dedicated research and development partner for both science and industry.

Since 2006, Fluigent has developed, manufactured and commercialized innovative microfluidic flow control and fluid handling solutions for laboratories, research units and industrial all around the world. Enabling full control of microfluidic systems (pressure, flow rate and voltage), Fluigent technologies provide innovating solutions for all microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip applications.

Micronit Launches Microfluidic Starter kit

Due to several request for a whole microfluidic setup, including pumps, connections e.t.c. Micronit has put together a whole suitcase full of useful tools for a successful start of your microfluidic experiments.

This kit helps you get your first results faster for the proof of concept of your application and reduces the time to market for your new product development.. If you are a researcher it enables you to publish faster with reliable results.

Microfluidic Chips:
The selection of microfluidic chips will enable you to explore different fields of Microfluidics, such as droplet microfluidics, chemical synthesis, microfluidic flow behaviour and more.
You want to use your own chip-idea? This kit is fully compatible with the prototyping service FluidicPRO.

Fluidic Connect PRO Chip holder:
This chip holder is as easy to handle as putting a DVD into a player. The click-close-connect system allows easy connections and easy handling of your chips. All of Micronit's standard chips as well as the FluidicPRO chips fit into this holder.

Syringe Pumps:
The kit also contains 2 syrings pumps for pumping your fluids through your chips with different flow rates.

Accessories:
To complete the package Micronit adds a broad variety of several accessories such as a full range of connection materials, syringes and everything else you need for running your experiments.

Micronit receives grant : Innovation 2 Industrialisation for Advanced Micro- en Nanosystems

Micronit has received a grant  to develop a point of care diagnostics platform.
As a first example a point of care device for chronic disease monitoring will be developed. This project is a great help in reaching micronit objectives to enable the use of microfluidics technology in point of care markets.  Main barriers are ease of use, reliability and shelf life of the products currently under development.
This grant allows us to develop the technology into an easy to use, user friendly and robust platform technology.
